Analytical techniques such as ICP-OES and ICP-MS are widely accepted as the techniques of choice for many applications where trace level determination of inorganic elements is required.  The development of these instruments has dramatically improved speed of analysis over their early variants However, as in many cases, the rate determining step remains the time taken to prepare a sample, originally in solid form, into a suitable liquid for presentation to the spectrometer.
