Not all samples can be pelletized in aluminium cups. Some samples are still not stable enough and fall apart. In other cases, the aluminium may interfere with the analysis. In these cases, a suitable binder needs to be added to the sample.
The most common binder is Hoechst wax. This has excellent binding properties. It must be well mixed with the sample prior to pressing which can be done with a suitable mixer mill containing light, eg nylon balls. Hoechst wax is not however suitable for mixing with the sample during grinding. A material such as multimix, which has a mixture of binding material and a grinding aid should be used. This is available in powder or pellet forms.
Please contact us for further guidance can be given on the most suitable material for your sample.
